2012 Book Buying Ban
Today I start one of the hardest things ever, I am putting myself on a book buying ban starting today, September 1st/2012 until at least just before BEA in May 2013.
I have come to realize (as I look around me and see boxes upon boxes upon boxes of books in my basement and books stacked around the desk, book case, cedar chest etc) that I really have way to many books (review and bought/given) and I think I am pretty close to appearing on one of those hoarder shows.
Plus I am trying to save some money so that I can go to NYC/BEA in 2013 which could possibly be my last time going. So its important to start now as we go into the fall.
The exceptions to this book buying ban will be:

-anything bought for Michael from scholastic. Its not fair to put him through this
-If I recieve gift cards for my birthday & Christmas and I use them to buy books.
I know this will be hard and I am sure I will be tempted daily from your blog posts LOL anything that I see that I think I would like or want is going to go on a wishlist and I will check my library to see if they have any available to borrow.
Wish me luck guys cause I honestly will need it.

Why You Should Vote for Socialism - Eugene V. Debs - Recited by Cindy Sheehan
THIS IS THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THIS SPEECH!!!
Transcript
There are ninety million reasons why you should vote for Socialism in America this year and every one of them is a pulsing, breathing, human reason!
You must either vote for or against your own material interests as a wealth producer; there is no political purgatory in this nation of ours, despite the desperate efforts of so-called Progressive capitalist politicians to establish one. Socialism alone represents the material heaven of plenty for those who toil and the Socialist party alone offers the political means for attaining that heaven of economic plenty which the toil of the workers of the world provides in unceasing and measureless flow.
Capitalism represents the material hell of want and pinching poverty of degradation and prostitution for those who toil and in which you now exist, and each and every political party, other than the Socialist party, stands for the perpetuation of this economic hell of capitalism.
For the first time in all history you who toil possess the power to peacefully better your own condition. The little slip of paper which you hold in your hand on election day is more potent than all the armies of all the kings on earth. To that ballot the will of despots must bow; its alchemy the mythical power of money melts away and is as the fleeting mists before the morning sun.
Upon the political battlefield the worker meets the millionaire upon terms of absolute equality.
On any chosen day, you who toil may vote out of existence the system which robs and plunders you, for you are many and your oppressors are few.
You who toil are the arbiters of your own destiny in a sense never before realized by the workers of the earth.
In a single bloodless battle you can put an end to poverty; you alone possess the key which will unlock the fetters that bind you to a life of unrequited toil.
At your command, the millions of child slaves now toiling in the factories and mines of capitalism will troop forth to joyous freedom.
Either you must vote for capitalism, with its ever increasing poverty and prostitution for the workers - with its army, its militia, its police and its courts, with which it enforces bestial conditions upon you - or else you must vote for Socialism which proclaims industrial peace in place of war - plenty in place of poverty - love and chastity in place of vice and prostitution.
I care not by what name the political parties of capitalism are called, Republican, Democrat, Progressive, they are all one and stand irretrievably committed to the preservation and perpetuation of capitalism with all its horrors of vice and corruption, in city, state, and nation.
For you, the workers of this nation, there is but one issue in this campaign and that issue is Socialism vs. Capitalism. Beside this issue all other questions pale into insignificance. In the name of civilization, Socialism challenges capitalism to justify its right to exist.
Here we have a primal political issue as incapable of misconception or misunderstanding as was the issue between the advocates of human slavery and the abolitionists of half a century ago.
Today capitalism stands stripped in all its hideous nakedness. Its political spokesmen of whatever name or brand must justify the almost universal poverty which it visits upon the useful workers of this nation. They must justify the multi-millionaire and the pauper. /they must justify the slaughter of the workers in the mines and mills, the factories and upon the railways of capitalism.
They must justify the ever present army of the millions of unemployed. They must justify the employment of millions of wives and mothers, daughters and sisters, at a wage which drives six hundred thousand of them into the brothels of capitalism.
They must justify a child slavery which chains more than two million helpless little ones to the chariot wheels of modern capitalism.
They must justify the civic and political rottenness which permeates the institutions of capitalism like a living leprosy, debauching alike the policeman on his beat and the judge on his bench.
They must justify the prostitution of the press and pulpit, of schools and colleges, which serve the interests of capitalism and thereby poison the very fountainhead of the nation's source of information and intelligence.
Beside these terrible facts of capitalism how puerile, how utterly imbecile is the chatter about the "tariff," "the control of corporations," " the dignity of the courts," "the theft of delegates to national conventions of capitalist parties" and half a hundred other so-called "issues" with which capitalism seeks to cozen the worker out of his vote!
Can you, my fellow-worker, justify a vote of confidence in capitalism in the face of this terrible indictment? Surely the daily experience of your own life and the experience of those who are dear to you is a more terrific indictment of capitalism than mortal man can pen.
In the name of peace and plenty; in the name of honor and virtue; in the name of manhood, in the name of the womanhood and in the name of the childhood of this nation, you should cast your ballot for Socialism.
In the name of human liberty Socialism invites you to rally to its standard. Behind the ramparts of capitalism, buttressed by soldiers and costs, cower the latest beneficiaries of human slavery. They are the modern captains of industry - the owners of this and every nation of earth.
As long as you must use the things they own, the modern machinery of production and distribution, just so long will you be slaves. Just so long will your wives and daughters fill the brothels of the rich. Just so long will your children be sacrificed upon the altars of human greed. Just so long will the vast army of the unemployed, our brothers, tramp the highways and byways of this nation denied even the poor privilege of earning a mere existence.
Just so long will you and your brother workers fill the jails and the asylums - the penitentiaries and the poor houses - oblations to the greed and avarice of a plutocracy, compared with which the greed of the chattel slave master was respectable.
In the name of that democracy which, in its final interpretation, spells universal brotherhood, you should vote for Socialism. It is the universal bond that binds the workers of all tongues and of every nation and its password is "Love and Liberty."

The World is not Mad. We Are. by Diane Gee
I was taught God is Love. Then religion spent a lot of time throwing caveats on that concept and twisted it all up until I gave up on Religion and its God. I kept the only thing of value, though. LOVE. What if the only entity is no entity at all, but an action, a feeling, a connection with others embodied in the word "Love?" If that be the case, humans have pretty much killed God. We all love our kid, love our favorite music, love pizza with extra cheese, love puppies, a good buzz, a multiple orgasm and a gorgeous sunset? Whats not to love there? Our circle, we love. Beyond that is where it gets all messy.
You see, love and hate are not only related, they do the hoochie coochie non stop together so much they make the ying/yang circle look like a pinwheel in a hurricane. There is a vulnerability in loving that begs reciprocity. "I'd do anything for you, I cannot believe you don't hold me in the same regard, enough to do that for me." Rejection is a bitch, and lets face it, our human egos are frail enough that it doesn't take a hell of a lot to turn that upside down.
The thing we hate most is being afraid. Lets face it, it really is a frightening world out there. We hate that our lives suck. We hate worrying about getting or keeping a job. We hate that our kids have no discernible future. We hate getting old. We hate dying and death of our beloveds. We hate the fact that while our things are made ever more cheaply, we pay more and more for them. Justifiable hate? If you look at it closely enough, you will see that most of these hates are driven by the fact there is no love in the world of us. Who, other than us, worries about us? Our kids, our mortgages, our refrigerators filled with the crap genetically modified frankenfoods filled chemicals we can't even name? No one loves us. No one cares.
Where is the Greater Love? Why, oh why, are we so alone?
We have become that isolated. We duck, cover, try and compete to keep our families fed with whatever job we can screw someone else out of, and hey, "greed is good" seems to have proven itself true. I mean, Donald Toupeing Trump already!
The news is filled with horrors, from the beating and murders of our own in the streets by our "to protect and serve" brigade, to men saying "rape is just a dandy 'nother type of conception and if you didn't like it you wouldn't get pregnant!" to the filthy sand pipeline being run through our pristine countryside down to the bowels of our Texas oil baron's laps, to there's no fucking ice caps left, to fracking earthquakes! Douche d'jours spout ever douchier things that fill us with momentary outrage on the old telly every day. And Saturn's Season has again, every 4 years, eating our own with gluttonous joy, sure that our brand name candidate is the Savior.
No wonder we shut off, or get caught in the minutia. Its hard as hell to face the real thing. Apathy isn't always a form of cowardice, sometimes its a defense mechanism that protects our heads and hearts from exploding in agony.
So, again, I'm no religious person. But what ever happened to the "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" thing? Or the "be as little children" part? Or even "that all men are created equal" meme? No toddler in the world hates anything, short of naps. No little kid in the world sees someone crying without wanting to run up, hug them and ask if they are ok. No one wishes their house would be drone bombed as they drone bomb others. No white teen wants to be treated as equal to black teens in being shot in the back by the pigs.
So what the fuck happened to us?
Inside, we know whats good and right. We have to. Or I have to believe that is true as my own madness.
We let our laws, rules and representatives change to be based on fear and hate. We had the love beaten out of us incrementally, making us sick inside. We willingly allowed our love to be killed in the name of madness.
Joshua said, "A strange game. The only winning move is not to play," and like most prophets of the wide screen, we took that wrong too. The game he meant was competition.
I mean, its not like any one multi-authored conglomeration of ghost writers have a monopoly on prophetic statements. Prophet Jefferson warned us about allowing the elites tyranny over us, and Brother Ike warned us about the MIC. Guru Lennon asked us to imagine. Even seer Wile E. Coyote warned us "We ɹ Fucked!" as he fell off the cliff.
So yeah, while the side of hate and greed have infiltrated our schools and airwaves, its not like we haven't had messengers to show us a better way.
I think we just forgot ourselves. I think the main thing we forgot is that all governing happens by the CONSENT of the people. Of course, its not all daisy chain necklaces and Kumbayays that will show our removal of consent. There are real devils to fight. Like the richest woman in the world, who pulled herself up by her placenta straps and was born to billions telling Australia's poor to get off their asses and work harder, her obese chins trembling in indignation. Worse? There is Dick Zombie Cheney and Bill Bastard Kristol. Our work is cut out for us. Those are the easy targets, the Monsanto-co-owns-XE and Halliburton Lockheed Complex are the biggies, as are their book makers, JP-Chasing-Bank-of-Morgan-America. We need to remove our consent, and believe you me, those fuckers would rather kill us all then lose their power, because they hire and pay our Politicians to Govern with only THEIR consent. Not ours. Theirs.
So waking to the real enemy is problem one. The enemy that only breeds hate.
Learning to Love again? Whoaaa, dudes. That is the easiest and hardest part of the bargain.
It means giving up our exceptional place in the world, and not getting iphones made by poisoned Chinese children. It means wanting Indonesians to get paid a decent wage. It means that in a world running out of resources we can't close our eyes to the starving of Afrikan children while we pig out at Applebee's endless pasta plates. It means risking arrest to keep the bank from foreclosing on your neighbor, despite the fact that your arrest may mean you lose your job and risk foreclosure too. It means all are equal, we love like little children and we actually do the fuck unto others. Its as easy as being aware and as hard as leaving Plato's Cave.
If you lived in Iraq or Iran or any of the Stans, would you welcome the freedom bombs being dropped on your head while you attended a wedding?
If you lived in Palestine, would you welcome the dozers come to level the home your great-great-great grandfather built?
If you lived in Puerto Rico, would you be glad to be a citizen with no actual representation or autonomy?
There really is no such thing as lesser evil, unless we consent to evil in the first place. Unless, we are truly mad enough to believe that the World is just crazy and evil and we are powerless victims.
The day, the moment we all decide to walk a city-block in someone else's sandals? That shit stops.
We need to stop teaching selfishness. Its madness. We need to teach love and compassion. Its sanity. The world can only be saved by compassion, and only that compassion and cooperation should have our consent. We need to create a system that does love us, perhaps for the first time in History. Where we are valued, where we know for certain we will never be let down, and left to suffer in isolation. We need to do the things the prophets said and feed the hungry, clothe the naked, house the homeless, as we would have done unto us. We need to rebalance the hoochie-coochie wheel of love and hate until it glows in brightness and warmth instead of spinning into some black-hole singularity. Every other option but this leads to doom.
"Its not just about you," we need to re-learn. "We are all related," we need to think.
"I love you," we need to feel. About everyone. The buck may stop there, but the fear ends here. Without fear? Hate dies. We create the World.
The World isn't Mad, We Are.
Changing that? Its as easy as Love.
I love you.

25 Things You Don't Know About Me
Since its my 4th blogoversary I thought that I would do this fun thing so that you guys can get to know me a little bit more. This is actually inspired from a weekly feature in US Weekly.
So there it is, some things you might not have known about me. Anything else you would like to know? If so please leave it in the comments and I will be sure to answer it.
- So not only do I have a booking problem, I also have a magzine buying problem as you can see from the above picture that I swapped from bookshipper.blogspot.com (I passed them on to her). I love buying those trashy tabloid magazines. As you can see from the People, In Touch, US weekly and Life & Style stash. As for Women's World I love reading them.
- I read every night for about an hour or so before going to bed. I find its a great way to relax before sleeping and unwind from a busy day.
- I constantly check my cell phone to see if I missed a call or a text.
- I love buying shower gels even though I have way to many already. If I love the scent I want to buy it just in case they don't carry it anymore.
- I have an obession with owls. Its more the drawing kind then the physical owl.
- I love Tim Horton's Ice Caps and I usually have one every day. (more so in the summer)
- I spend way to much time on Youtube checking out videos.
- When I use a pen, I can only use that one until it runs out. I hate using different pens.
- This one you might already know but I suck at writting reviews. As I sit here and look around I see a bunch of books I need to review soon.
- Apart from M&M's the only chocolate I can eat is Lindt.
- I love taking pictures and I think next month I will do a weekly post with what I took that week.
- I love traveling and wish I could do it more. I have been to Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia (Halifax), New Brunswick (Moncton, Sackville, Edmunston, Miramachi and Bathurst), Quebec (Quebec City and Montreal), Mississauga, Toronto and Milton (Ontario), Lake George, Vermont, Chicago, Detroit and New York City.
- Whenever I visit some place I have to get a souvenir from that place ie magnets, cups, tshirts etc
- I love shopping in the US.
- I love trying new kinds of food and this ties into why I love shopping in the US.
- I love music and I always have it on. In the house, in the car where ever
- I love sending cards or buying little things for friends as a just because.
- I always have a ton of notes lying around with things to buy, things to do, plans etc
- I hate having my picture taken.
- My all time favorite classic books are Wuthering Heights and To Kill a Mockingbird.
- There is only a few movies I can watch over and over again and they are Grease (first one), Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Top Gun and The Breakfast Club. I am sure there is others that I can't think of right now.
- I am not a summer person expecially when its hot and humid.
- I am not a winter person. I hate when its freezing cold. Funny since I live in Canada right?
- I love going for drives. Especially when its the spring and fall.
- Last but not least, unless you know me on facebook and have access to my personal page, I got a new (semi) look. I just got new glasses.
These are tshirts I picked up in Lake George for Michael and a Lake George hoodie and tshirt for me. |
Love clothes shopping in the US cause its cheaper there then it is here. This is our Lake George haul. |
This is what I picked up this time when I went to the US. Its foods we can't get here in Canada. Michael loves those pasta salads for lunch. |
Goldfish crackers isn't thing we stock up on since we don't get all those flavors here. The pretzels are my favorites with the cupcake and smores the next. |
Some canned stuff for Michael's lunch which we don't carry here. |

(Product Review) Shirley J's Whisk Bliss
I was recently asked by MediaGuest if I would be interested in reviewing something that is definitely not book related and I when I saw that it was Shirley J's Whisk Bliss I quickly jumped at the chance because if you know me, you know that I love trying new products and especially so if it involves food. I am so thankfully that my family is like that too in trying new food and recipes.
I grew up eating the basic stuff with parents who had no desire to experiment with food or recipes. Even though I tried several times so I always vowed that when I left I wouldn't be like that and honestly I am not I love trying new things so I was thrilled to try this out.
When we got the package in the mail we sat down to figure out what to make with it. On the back of the package it gives three recipes you can make with it and they are Pasta Alfredo, Old-Fashioned Gravy and Broccoli and Cheddar soup. All three sounded really good but we finally were able to decide on the Broccoli and Cheddar soup.
Please note that this isn't my pic, for some reason my computer ate the pic because I can't find it in my album and its been deleted off my camera. I found this online. |
I think I might have swayed the decision only because I had just bought some fresh broccoli a few days before getting this in the mail so what perfect way to use up the broccoli and this. Plus we always have a ton of cheese in the house because this is one of our favorite snacks in the afternoon.
All the recipes were easy to make and there was nothing complicated about them because its one package of the Whisk Bliss with two cups of water then depending on what you are making will depend on what you add.
For the Broccoli and Cheddar soup I ended up adding more broccoli then the recipe called for and I used mild cheddar cheese (marble) in the soup and sprinkled on top and it tasted delicious. I made this for supper and there was enough to feed three people. It was super easy and fast to make which was perfect because we had plans that evening and were in a rush to get out.
Seeing how quick and easy this was I quickly had to check out http://www.shirleyj.com/en/ and was pleasantly surprised at the site and how much they had to offer. I did find out that they are currently only in the US but if you are in Canada you can still order from them but shipping would be a little more then in the US but if you happen to visit the US you can always check the store locator to find out where the closest one is. I am seriously thinking of perhaps placing and order because there seems to be alot of neat productst that I would love to try.
Disclosure: Thanks to Shirley J and MediaGuest for sending me this product for review. I was not compensated in any other way, this is my honest and sincere review.

Its that time of the year again...
Can you believe its already that time of the year? Its back to school time. It literally just feels like yesterday he finished school. We are anxious and excited for school to begin. It will be so nice to get back into the routine of things again and having consistency.
This year the senior school (grades 3-6) did something different, the night before school started they sent out emails to the student body letting them know who their teacher was going to be so that they could avoid the mass confusion of the first day of school. Just imagine 400+ (kids and parents) in the school yard trying to find there name on a class list.
I think this was fantastic because we knew who we had and where we had to be. Wishing all the kiddies a great school year.

61 A.D. by David McAfee
61 A.D. For ten years, Taras has lived in the young city of Londinium, feeding off the city’s underbelly. But now Theron, his old enemy, has come looking for revenge, and Taras’ nights of living in relative peace are about to end.
Yet not even Theron can slip into town unnoticed, and the Council of Thirteen sends Ramah to deal with the two renegades once and for all. But unknown to the Council, a much older enemy is also in Londinium, and this time even the great Ramah might not be safe.
Set against the backdrop of the Iceni uprising in Roman-era Britannia, 61 A.D. continues the story of Taras, Theron, and Ramah, as they fight their way through history.

And when no one is powerful enough to transform him back except Ivy, it sparks the rumor: Like father, like daughter. Worse, someone has used an evil spell book to bring back two of history's most nefarious killers.
Ivy's got a simple plan to set things right: find the real dark spell caster, steal the book, and reverse the spell. No problem! But first, she’ll have to deal with something more dangerous than murderous spirits: the school’s hotter-than-brimstone demon bad boy, Nick Marcelli. Demons are about as hard to handle as black magic, and Ivy soon discovers it’s going to take more than a lot of luck and a little charm if she wants to clear her status as a dark witch, get a warm-blooded boyfriend, and have her former date back to eating meal worms before the week’s end
Against the backdrop of epic warfare and the powers of ten mysterious gods, Lucia struggles to understand The Black One.
Her father-king wants war.
Her messianic brother wants peace.
The black god wants his due.
She suffers all the consequences.

Its Officially my 4th Blogoversary (Give Away)
Its officially here, my 4th year Blogoversary.
I find it hard to believe that I have lasted this long but I am so happy that I have. I have met so many amazing people both online and offline because of blogging. I have worked/met with so many amazing reps and publishing houses. Received so many amazing books. Spoken/worked with some amazing authors.
I have been fortunate to attend two BEA's (Book Expo America) during my blogging and had so much fun meeting new people, meeting with reps and attending some amazing events. Hoping that in 2013, I will be able to make it number 3.
During my four years of blogging I have written 1,423 blog posts in that time. I am still amazed at that.
I was just checking the stats and to my surprise here is a top 5 list of my most popular posts:

(Meme) Sundays In Bed With....#12
I will shortly be heading to bed but before I do, I realized that I need a new book for my Sundays In Bed With.... post.
The awesome blogger behind this is Kate from Midnight Book Girl not only is she an awesome blogger but she is was one of my roommates for BEA. YAY!!
Sundays In Bed With....is a meme I've started to share the book we're spending the morning in bed with, or the one we'd like to stay curled up in bed with all Sunday if only our busy lives would allow! For fun, take a picture of the book in your bed, or simply write up a post or comment below sharing your Sundays in Bed With book. Quoted from Kate's blog
This week I am happy to say that I was able to stay in bed to read:
On Thursday I had some dental work done for a crown. I thought it was just to do that but I found out that no its not, its only a temporary crown so I have to go back in two weeks for the permanent one so the last few days its been painful so I have been taking it easy and resting and reading.
I was super excited to get this book at BEA in June and to meet the author. I will be on her blog tour for this in early September.
Hope your having a good weekend and that you manage to find some time read this week.
(MEME) The Mailbox Post (August 20th - 25th)
Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
Mailbox Monday is originally hosted by Marcia . In the summer of 2010 Marcia decided she needed a change in hosting and didn't want to rely on one blogger alone to do it because its a lot of work so she decided to put Mailbox Monday on tour and so far with great success it has made monthly stops at more then a dozen blogs and this year is booked until the end.
The host for August is Jennifer from 5 Minutes With Books . This is a new to me blogger and I am super excited to check this blog out.
My fellow Montreal blogger, Tynga is doing a mailbox post called:
Tynga's Reviews is hosting this meme and you can check out this link to find out more about it .
It was a quiet mailbox week as you can and a little busy considering this was the last full week of summer vacation. Tuesday was the summer reading party at the library and it was so much fun every year they always have the best entertainment and this year was no exception. They hired a magician and he did all kinds of tricks.
My camera was a little slow in taking the pictures. Here he is making this boy float and it was awesome. That was only one of the things he did that amazed the kids and parents.
Friends of ours had their daughter picked to help with an act and this one he make a snowflake out of tissue and after it was cut to look like a snow flake he made it snow. The kids were in awe.
After the entertainment it was time to get into the real fun. There was roughly 250 participates in the summer reading party this year and I'm not quite sure how many hours we all read for and I will try to find out when I go to the library this week.
We were lucky enough to win the family draw and it consisted of a $100 Chapters giftcard. Here is Michael with the Liberal leader of our area who presented us the prize:
Then while we were waiting in the cotton candy line
Michael got the suprise of his life, he won this:
Its a jar full of jelly beans, 693 of them. I have managed to hold Michael off of them for now but I'm not sure how long I can do it LOL
This weekend we will be gearing up for Wednesday and back to school. The fun starts with preparing back to school lunches. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate them. The only thing is Michael doesn't like sandwiches and its gotta be peanut free.
I only got two books to review and it was these:
Thanks Random House for sending this to me.
Thanks Sourcebooks. I will be on a blog tour for this so keep an eye out for this to appear shortly on the blog.
I bought no books this week:
